Data protection statement in accordance with the GDPR

GIZ takes the protection of personal data very seriously. This declaration explains what personal data is stored and what it is used for.

Data processing is the responsibility of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

I. General

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a public-benefit federal enterprise for international cooperation. We work as a federal enterprise under private law. Our aim is to achieve the development-policy objective of improving the living conditions of people worldwide and conserving the natural resources on which livelihoods depend.

II. Website Analytics and Cookies

The GIZ website draws on the services of AWStats software to analyse usage data. No other use is made of the data, and the data are not passed on to third parties. The following information is stored for each page you view and each file you download:

  • Technical details of the browser used
  • Anonymous IP address
  • Date and time
  • Page opened/name of the file downloaded
  • Quantity of data transferred
  • Notification of whether viewing or download was successful
  • Number of hits
  • Country location
  • Notification whether viewing or download was successful

The GIZ website uses optional cookies and technical cookies that are automatically deleted as soon as the browser on which the page is displayed is closed. These temporary session cookies are used each time you view an individual page, to make navigation easier. Cookies are small text files that are stored locally in your browser cache. Session cookies do not include any personal data and expire at the end of each session, or after the completion of a user survey, which is conducted as a rule every two years.

We do not use methods such as Java applets or ActiveX controls that make it possible to track your browsing behaviour.

Data is processed based on Art. 6 paragraph 1 a) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) with the legitimate interest of analysing usage to improve the company’s website.

Notes regarding objection:

For this purpose, a cookie is stored on the device, preventing user data from being collected when the user visits this website. In order for the objection to take effect, the cookie must be stored on every device used. As the cookie is stored in specific browsers (internet programs), the cookie must be stored in every browser if several browsers are used on one device (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox). Please also note that, if you delete all cookies, the objection cookie will also be deleted and will need to be stored again.

II.I Matomo analysis service (user analysis)

To analyse usage data on its website, GIZ uses the matomo web analysis service operated by matomo. Data is stored and evaluated completely anonymously.

matomo uses cookies to enable a statistical analysis of the use of the GIZ website. cookies do not contain any information that permits identification of a user. Every time you visit a page on the GIZ website and every time you download a file, information about the activity is processed and stored in a temporary log file. Before it is stored, each data set is rendered anonymous by altering the IP address.

GIZ evaluates usage information for statistical purposes as part of its public relations work and for the needs-based provision of information within the scope of the tasks it performs (legal basis: Article 6 (1) e GDPR in conjunction with Article 3 BDSG).

The data generated with matomo is processed and stored by etracker on behalf of GIZ in Germany only.

III. Data policy for the LNOB Online Training

  • The personal data (name, e-mail, nationality, country of residence, organisation, department, billing address, position, gender, and motivation) that is required for the purpose of the LNOB Online Training in the division Global Policy, Governance, Cities will be stored on GIZ servers and used for organising and inviting to the training course sessions.
  • The data will be used solely for the purpose of the coordination of the LNOB Online Training.
  • The legal basis for processing is consent to this statement following GDPR Art. 6 (1) a).
  • The data will be used exclusively for the purposes described in the statement. Any other use will always be subject to further consent. Your data will not be used for advertising purposes.
  • GIZ uses appropriate technical and organisational measures to secure data against unintentional or intentional falsification, destruction, loss or access by unauthorised persons. Access to your personal data is restricted to GIZ staff of the Sector Project Agenda 2030, Reducing Poverty and Inequality and two staff members of the AIZ staff members who need to process it for the above-mentioned purposes, and who will handle the information you provide in a proper and confidential manner.
  • As far as separately agreed, the relevant information for peer-to-peer communication will be made available to the other course participants and an external consultants responsible for the facilitation of the training. Apart from that no data will be passed on to third parties.
  • In the case of revocation, it is not possible to participate in the LNOB Online Training. To revoke consent, please send an email to: lnob-training@giz.de

IV. Data policy for the Professional Online Training Course on Inequalities

  • The personal data (name, e-mail, nationality, country of residence, organisation, department, position, gender, and motivation) that is required for the purpose of the Professional Online Training Course on Inequalities in the division Global Policy, Governance, Cities will be stored on GIZ servers and used for organising and inviting to the training course sessions.
  • The data will be used solely for the purpose of the coordination of the Professional Online Training Course on Inequalities.
  • The legal basis for processing is consent to this statement following GDPR Art. 6 (1) a).
  • The data will be used exclusively for the purposes described in the statement. Any other use will always be subject to further consent. Your data will not be used for advertising purposes.
  • GIZ uses appropriate technical and organisational measures to secure data against unintentional or intentional falsification, destruction, loss or access by unauthorised persons. Access to your personal data is restricted to GIZ staff of the Global Project on Reducing Inequalities (8 persons) and two staff members of the GIZ staff members from the Sector Project “2030 Agenda, Poverty and Inequalities” who need to process it for the above-mentioned purposes, and who will handle the information you provide in a proper and confidential manner.
  • The data will not be passed on to third parties.
  • In the case of revocation, it is not possible to participate in the Professional Online Training Course on Inequalities. To revoke consent, please send an email to: inequalities@giz.de

V. Duration of data retention

Personal data are regularly deleted when

  • they are no longer needed for contractual purposes (e.g. for employment, top-ups, rental, sale or service contracts)
  • when the individuals concerned have not given any separate authorisation
  • when statutory data storage obligations and periods have expired.

VI. Rights of data subjects

You are entitled to enquire about your personal data, have the data corrected if necessary, and ask for processing to be restricted or data to be erased. The data will then be removed from our system. The consent given to use personal data can also be revoked at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing up to the time of revocation.

You have the right to approach the data protection authorities with complaints. The authority responsible is the German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).

VII. Matomo Opt-Out

You may choose to prevent this website from aggregating and analyzing the actions you take here. Doing so will protect your privacy, but will also prevent the owner from learning from your actions and creating a better experience for you and other users.
